The Fokker D VII was a single-seat fighter/scout developed in Germany in 1918. The D VII could reach a maximum speed of 124 mph and weighed only 1,620 pounds empty (1,940 pounds was its maximum take-off weight). The Fokker D VII was armed with two fixed forward-firing 7.92 mm LMG 08/15 machine-guns and was an integral part of the German air force in World War I. This particular aircraft features artwork of the “Seven Swabians” (from the Brothers Grimm fairy tale) on each side of the fuselage. The pilot, Gefreiter Wilhelm Scheutzel, of Jasta 65 scored his one and only kill during the war when he downed a DH4 on 13 August 1918.
